Abstract:

Photographs of various newsworthy subjects pertaining to University of California, Berkeley, as collected by Colvig during his career in the Office of Public Information. Majority of photographs document events from the U.C. Berkeley Free Speech Movement of November and December of 1964, including demonstrations and other assemblies, and such figures as Mario Savio and Clark Kerr. Also includes photographs documenting a 1968 student sit-in at Moses Hall, and campus events pertaining to divestment in South Africa in 1985. Also includes a few leaves from an earlier photograph album depicting the U.C. Berkeley campus in the late nineteenth century, Joseph LeConte in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and unidentified locations in Asia. Also includes a few portraits of Ray Colvig. Other idividuals depicted in collection include Robert Gordon Sproul, Joan Baez, Art Goldberg, Peter Camejo, E.G. Nourse, Robert Heyns, Earl Warren, Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Walter A. Haas, Walter Cronkite, Edward M. Kennedy, David Kemnitzer and Lyndon B. Johnson.
